A mini-documentary from JaZzy MaE that covers the Gran Marcha Immigrant March in Los Angeles on May 1, 2006.
Sights and sounds of the occasion are combined with music and spoken word to form a sort of 'documentary poem'. There are no interviews. Instead, we allow the signs participants carry to do the talking.
The issues facing American citizens and the U.S. government around immigration are not easy to resolve. I don't know if 'another legalization' is the answer and 4-1/2 minutes isn't even enough time to raise the questions.
But I can relate to the idea 'better to die on your to feet than to live on your knees'. To me, the true independence represented by the United States means respecting the individual's right to live with dignity and integrity.
¿¡SI SE PUEDE!? simply documents an event, revealing that those who marched are not 'aliens', but diverse human beings with needs, with families, with hope in their hearts and voices ready to be heard.
